Kelly McVearry, PhD, MA, EdM
Committees:
Board Chair
Qualifications
Dr. McVearry is qualified to serve on our Board because of her experience as an investor, operator, and product manager, with a legacy of building technologies for transforming regulatory science and precision medicine. She is the founding CEO and Chairman of Bento Bio, a patient with lupus, and a scientist.
Background
Dr. McVearry is lead investor in Bento Biology. She has built and scaled software products and IT infrastructure that enabled artificial intelligence, blockchain protocols, zero trust collaboration technologies, natural language reasoning, and bio-inspired solution architecture. She has a Legacy of Leading Digital Transformation Initiatives, with recent projects supporting global AI infrastructure for the U.S. Department of Defense Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC) as well as procurement automation blockchain and data governance for the UAE Ministry of Finance. Previously she was CSO and product manager for clinical trial regulatory review software Janus CTR, the FDA standard for receiving and harmonizing clinical trial data from the pharmaceutical industry. Before joining the private sector, she conducted neuropharmacology clinical trials and comparative effectiveness research as PI and Co-I. Her prenatal drug exposure studies identified neurodevelopmental effects of certain antiepileptic drugs. In 2010, citing these studies, the FDA relabeled Valproate as unsafe for pregnant women. She trained in the laboratories of neurologist Kimford Meador (Stanford University), cognitive psychologist Howard Gardner (Harvard University), and neurodiversity pioneer Sally Smith (Lab School of Washington).
