S. Cumberbatch is qualified to serve on our Board because of her direct leadership building critical platform technologies for the NIH National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) and the National Library of Medicine, including the world’s largest DNA database and the largest biomedical research tools and data collections.
Background
S. Cumberbatch is the Executive Vice President of A-TEK, a company that builds massive scientific databases and software for biomedical discovery and public health missions. Her team built the leading software tools and data systems for the NIH National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), including GenBank®, an annotated collection of all publicly available DNA sequences; Pubmed, a digital archive of peer-reviewed biomedical research literature with intelligent indexing of the scientific literature; Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST), the leading DNA matching software for searching billions of DNA pair bases for DNA sequences ranging from 40 to hundreds of base pairs with many variations, gaps and mismatches; and Sequence Read Archive, the world’s largest human DNA database with quality scores for DNA sequences that represent accuracy in reading each base-pair.
